Zyclara Drug Interactions

Before starting treatment with Zyclara, tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements. Although Zyclara is not likely to cause interactions with most other drugs, it should generally not be taken with other medications that contain the same active ingredient. Specifically, combining Zyclara and Aldara may increase the risk for severe skin reactions or other side effects.

An Overview of Interactions With Zyclara

Zyclara® (imiquimod cream) appears to be unlikely to interact with other medications. Nonetheless, if you are using Zyclara, always include it in your medication list for each of your healthcare providers.

Drug Interactions With Zyclara Explained

The only interaction for Zyclara listed in the prescribing information is other medications with the same active ingredient (imiquimod), specifically, Aldara®, which contains a higher concentration of the drug. Because Zyclara and Aldara (or generic versions of Aldara) contain imiquimod, there is really no reason to combine them. Combining these drugs may increase the risk for side effects, including severe skin reactions.
In addition, it is reasonable to expect that Zyclara might, at least theoretically, react with other skin medications, especially ones that are harsh or that can cause irritation. In most cases, Zyclara causes some type of skin reaction, which can vary from a little redness to severe open sores and swelling. Choose gentle skincare products while using this medication.
As a precaution, it is recommended to avoid combining Zyclara with any other actinic keratosis medications.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all Zyclara interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the specific drug interactions that may apply to you.
