This ointment contains the active form of vitamin D and can help relieve symptoms of mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis. It is applied to the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, calcitriol ointment may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Some of the most common side effects of this medication include skin discomfort and itching.

Important Information for Your Healthcare Provider

Talk with your healthcare provider before using calcitriol ointment if you have:
  • High blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia)
  • Any allergies, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
