Dermatop Dosage

When applying a dose of Dermatop, a thin layer is sufficient. This should not be covered with a bandage or other dressing unless your healthcare provider recommends, as this increases the risk of side effects. Use this medication twice a day for as long as your healthcare provider recommends. This will likely be a short period, as long-term use also increases the risk of problems.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Dermatop

The dosage of Dermatop® (prednicarbate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending mostly on the type and severity of the skin condition you are treating. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dermatop Dosing Guidelines

The standard dosage for treating itching or inflammation due to a wide variety of skin conditions (such as psoriasis, eczema, or atopic dermatitis) is a thin layer applied to the affected area(s) twice a day. Gently rub the medication into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated area. Wash your hands after applying the medication, unless you are treating your hands.
Your healthcare provider may or may not recommend covering the medication with a dressing. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a recommendation on which type of dressing to use. Using a dressing might help Dermatop work better, but it also increases the risk of side effects.
If no improvement is seen within two weeks, talk with your healthcare provider about a different treatment approach. Ask your healthcare provider exactly how long you should use Dermatop. Long-term use (more than a few weeks) increases the risk of serious side effects.

General Information on Using Dermatop

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Dermatop include the following:
  • This medication is usually applied to the affected area(s) twice a day.
  • Apply Dermatop sparingly. More is not better. Only a thin film is necessary.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Dermatop dosing in general, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
