Vorinostat Side Effects

Treatment with vorinostat may cause side effects such as hair loss, nausea, and fatigue. This medication can also cause severe complications, such as blood clots, high blood sugar levels, and allergic reactions, which require immediate medical treatment. Also, let your healthcare provider know if something "just does not seem right," as it is difficult to predict whether you will experience reactions to this drug.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Vorinostat

Just like any chemotherapy medicine, vorinostat (Zolinza®) can cause side effects, some of which can be quite significant. Although not everyone who takes this drug will have problems, most people will experience some type of side effect. Talk to your healthcare provider about ways to prevent or lessen adverse reactions to this medicine.

Serious Vorinostat Side Effects

Some side effects of vorinostat are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
 
  • Sudden warmth, redness, swelling, pain, or tenderness in one or both legs, which could be signs of a blood clot
  • Signs of blood clots in the lungs, such as:
 
    • Shortness of breath
    • Sudden, sharp chest pain
    • Coughing up blood
    • Sweating
    • Feeling anxious
 
  • Signs of anemia, such as:
 
    • Unusual tiredness
    • Weakness
    • Pale skin
    • Shortness of breath
 
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Signs of high blood sugar levels, such as:
 
    • Dizziness
    • Increased thirst
    • Increased urination
 
  • Signs of dehydration, such as:
 
    • Dry mouth
    • Thirst
    • Headache
    • Decreased urination
 
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea, especially if you cannot keep down fluids
  • Swelling of the arms, legs, ankles, or feet.
