Treatment for a Simple Staph Infection
If you have a staph infection, your healthcare provider will take many factors into account when recommending treatment. These include:
- The severity of your infection
- Where the infection is
- Any existing medical conditions you may have
- Your age.
For simple staph infections affecting the skin, treatment may consist of nothing more than warm compresses. Your healthcare provider may also recommend an antibiotic that is applied to the skin.
Keep in mind that a staph skin infection can return after appearing to have healed. To help prevent this, follow your healthcare provider's directions while you have the infection, and follow prevention guidelines, such as washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and covering all cuts and scrapes.
