More Info on Spinosad Indications

How Does Spinosad Work?

The active ingredient in this product causes lice to become hyperactive, after which they become paralyzed and die. Spinosad is derived from the fermentation of a certain type of soil bacteria. It is also used as an insecticide in lawn and garden products.

Spinosad Use in Young Children

Spinosad is approved for use in children as young as four years old. It should never be used in infants under the age of six months old, since young infants are at risk for absorbing more of the medication through the skin. This medicine should absolutely never be used in newborns, as it can cause a dangerous side effect known as "gasping syndrome."

Are There Off-Label Uses?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than treating head lice. However, at this time, there are no universally accepted off-label spinosad uses.
