Mupirocin Drug Information
The prescription medicine (Bactroban®) is approved to treat several different bacterial infections. It is particularly effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In fact, the antibiotic is often given to healthcare workers and adults in institutionalized settings during a MRSA outbreak to help prevent the spread of disease.
Mupirocin is not expected to react with other drugs; however, your healthcare provider still needs a current list of all medications you are taking (including nonprescription forms). This information can help ensure that mupirocin is right for you. If you are a woman, you should also tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
(Click Mupirocin for more information on this drug, including how it works, general dosing guidelines, possible side effects to be aware of, and other safety concerns.)
