Metronidazole Gel Information

Metrogel® (metronidazole gel) is a medication licensed for the treatment of bumps and pimples caused by a skin condition known as rosacea. It is approved for use only in adults age 18 and older.
 
The medicine comes in the form of a gel that is applied to the affected areas of the skin. If you are using the 1% strength (available as a brand-name product only), apply the gel once a day. If you are using the 0.75% strength (available as a generic product only), apply the gel twice a day. Possible side effects may include skin irritation, such as stinging, itching, and dryness.
 
Before using Metrogel, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a history of low blood cell counts.
