Information on Lichen Sclerosus
Lichen sclerosus is an inflammatory skin condition that is more common in women (particularly those who have gone through menopause) than men. It usually affects the vulva (the outer genitals) and the anal area. Symptoms vary, but itching is a common complaint; small white spots may also be present.
Treatment will depend on the severity of a person's case and the specific area(s) of the body affected. Healthcare providers can diagnose advanced cases by looking at the skin; for early or mild cases of the disease, a biopsy is required.
(Click Lichen Sclerosis for more information on this condition, including other symptoms and whether you can "catch" it from someone else.)
