Available by prescription only, Protopic^® (tacrolimus ointment) is a product licensed for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, also called eczema. Specifically, this ointment is a "second-line" treatment, which means it is used when other treatments for eczema have failed or cannot be used for whatever reason.

When using this medicated ointment, Protopic should be applied to the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Do not cover this area with a bandage or other dressing, and stop using it once your eczema symptoms have improved.
