Protopic
® (
tacrolimus ointment) is a medicated ointment used as a "second-line" treatment for severe cases of
atopic dermatitis. It works by suppressing the immune system. This drug is used just until eczema symptoms resolve. However, unlike other immunosuppressants, it can be used again after a break.
Protopic ointment comes in the following strengths:
- Protopic 0.03%
- Protopic 0.1%.
Children typically use the lower strength of this medication.
