Periorbital Cellulitis

Diagnosing Periorbital Cellulitis

Your doctor can make a periorbital cellulitis diagnosis by asking a number of questions concerning your medical history, performing a physical exam, and ordering blood tests.

Treatment Options

The goal of treatment for periorbital cellulitis is to treat the affected area and to prevent periorbital cellulitis from becoming orbital cellulitis, which is a medical emergency.

Oral antibiotics are used to treat the condition in adults; IV antibiotics are used to treat periorbital cellulitis in young children. However, adults with severe symptoms may receive IV antibiotics as well. Be sure to tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin.
