Neosporin Drug Interactions

Because Neosporin® first aid ointments and creams are not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, they are unlikely to react seriously with other medications. However, there are situations in which the possibility of drug interactions with Neosporin may become important.

If you need to use any other skin medication, ask your healthcare provider if you can also use Neosporin and which product you should apply first.

If you have a serious burn or a large open wound, check with your healthcare provider before using Neosporin, as the medication is more likely to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Also, using Neosporin over large areas of the body, or using it on newborns, may increase the chance of significant absorption and potentially serious side effects, such as hearing loss or kidney damage.

Although Neosporin is not likely to cause drug interactions, make sure your healthcare provider knows if you use this medication regularly.
