Off-Label Uses for Mupirocin

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the purposes discussed previously in this article (this would be known as an "off-label" use). The nasal ointment form of mupirocin is sometimes used off-label to rid the nose of MRSA bacteria in individuals planning an elective surgery to help prevent surgical infections (MRSA in the nose could lead to an infection elsewhere in the body, such as the surgical site).
