Mometasone Furoate Ointment Dosage

For treating certain skin conditions, the starting dose of mometasone furoate ointment is a thin layer of the ointment applied on the affected areas of the skin once daily. In some cases, a healthcare provider may recommend covering the ointment with a dressing to improve absorption of the drug. However, this may also increase your risk for side effects.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Mometasone Furoate Ointment

The dose of mometasone furoate ointment (Elocon®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending mostly on the type and severity of the skin condition you are treating. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Mometasone Furoate Ointment Dosing Guidelines

For treating inflammation or itching due to a wide variety of skin conditions (such as psoriasis, eczema, or atopic dermatitis), the standard starting dose is a thin layer applied to the affected area(s) of the skin once a day. Gently rub the medicine into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated skin. Wash your hands after applying the medicine, unless you are treating your hands.

Your healthcare provider may recommend covering the medicine with a dressing. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a recommendation for which type of dressing to use. Using a dressing might help improve the effectiveness of the drug, but it also increases the risk for side effects.

If no improvement is seen within two weeks, talk with your healthcare provider about a different treatment approach.
