Metronidazole Gel Dosage

Dosing instructions for metronidazole gel call for applying this medicine on the affected areas of the skin either once or twice daily, depending on whether you are using the 1% or 0.75% formulation. Make sure to avoid getting the gel too close to your eyes, as it can cause serious irritation. Also, apply the gel after cleansing the face but before applying cosmetics.

An Introduction to Your Metronidazole Gel Dosage

The dose of metronidazole gel (Metrogel®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on the strength of the product chosen. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dosing for Metronidazole Gel 1%

The standard instructions for metronidazole gel 1% (sold under the brand-name Metrogel) are to apply it to the skin once daily, usually in the evening after cleansing the face. Choose a mild cleanser to help minimize rosacea symptoms. For maximum effectiveness, do not "spot treat" and do not just apply it during flares. Treat the entire area, every day. However, people who have occasional flares may need to only treat the area during this time.

Although metronidazole gel 1% is usually applied at night, you can apply it in the morning if it is more convenient. In that case, apply it after cleansing but before applying cosmetics.

Dosing for Metronidazole Gel 0.75%

The standard instructions for metronidazole gel 0.75% are to apply it to the skin twice daily, usually in the morning and evening after cleansing the face. Choose a mild cleanser to help minimize rosacea symptoms. For maximum effectiveness, do not "spot treat" and do not just apply it during flares. Treat the entire area, every day. For people with occasional flares, using metronidazole gel just during this time might be appropriate.
