Mangosteen Studies

Although there are several possible health benefits of mangosteen, there have not been enough studies on mangosteen to adequately determine the effectiveness of this substance for any use. However, mangosteen is known to contain several medicinally active compounds, and these individual compounds have been studied quite a bit. These various compounds have several different medicinal properties, such as:

  • Antioxidant activity
  • Antihistamine effects
  • Anti-tuberculosis properties
  • Astringent properties
  • Cancer-fighting properties
  • Serotonin-blocking effects (serotonin is an important chemical messenger in the brain and other areas of the body).

Due to these medicinal properties, mangosteen may potentially help treat or prevent several conditions, such as:

However, more mangosteen studies need to be done to prove that this substance is effective for any use.
