Does Mangosteen Work?

Many people wonder if mangosteen works. This product is claimed to have several medicinal benefits, such as stimulating the immune system, promoting good mental health, and preventing and/or treating conditions such as arthritis, cancer, and eczema. However, there is insufficient research to determine the effectiveness of the product for any use. It is known that mangosteen does contain several medicinally active compounds, but it should not be assumed that mangosteen has the same medicinal properties as its isolated compounds.

Does Mangosteen Really Work?

As with most dietary supplements, mangosteen is claimed to work for a variety of different uses. But does it really work? This article will address the effectiveness of mangosteen for various uses, including:

  • Promoting good mental health
  • Treating and/or preventing the following conditions:

Scientific Evidence

There is not enough scientific evidence to adequately determine the effectiveness of mangosteen for any use. Therefore, it cannot be said with any degree of certainty that mangosteen really works for any purported use. However, mangosteen is known to contain several medicinally active compounds, and these individual compounds have been studied quite a bit. These various compounds have several different medicinal properties, such as:

  • Antioxidant activity
  • Antihistamine effects
  • Anti-tuberculosis properties
  • Astringent properties
  • Cancer-fighting properties
  • Serotonin-blocking effects (serotonin is an important chemical messenger in the brain and other areas of the body).

However, it should not be assumed that mangosteen (which is a complex mixture of many different substances and compounds) has the same medicinal properties as its isolated compounds.
