If you have a skin condition called seborrhea, your healthcare provider may recommend a prescription skin gel called Xolegel. This medication is usually applied on the affected areas once a day for two weeks. This antifungal medicine is thought to work by killing certain types of fungus that may cause seborrhea. The most commonly reported side effect is a burning sensation at the application site.
What Is Xolegel?Xolegel® (ketoconazole gel) is a prescription skin medication. It is approved to treat seborrhea. It is applied just once a day for two weeks.
How Does Xolegel Work?Xolegel is part of a group of medications known as antifungals. Seborrhea has been linked to certain types of fungus, and Xolegel is thought to work by killing the fungus, although this is not known for sure at this time.
When and How to Apply ItSome general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Xolegel include the following:
- This medication is usually applied once a day for two weeks.
- Wash your hands before and after applying this medication.
- Do not wash the areas for at least three hours after application, and do not apply makeup or sunscreen for at least 20 minutes (on the treated areas) after application.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
