Skin Home > Clemastine Drug Information

Clemastine fumarate (Tavist® Allergy, Dayhist® Allergy) is an antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of respiratory allergies (such as hay fever), the common cold, or allergic reactions (such as hives). In some cases, it is also used for the treatment of morning sickness and the prevention of negative reactions to certain IV medications; however, these are off-label (unapproved) uses.

The medicine comes in tablet and syrup form. Depending on the particular product, you can buy it over-the-counter (OTC) or with a prescription. It is generally taken two or three times a day.

Although the medication is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Therefore, it's a good idea to go over the drug's safety information before using clemastine. Dizziness, heartburn, and drowsiness are some of the most commonly reported side effects.
