Skin Home > Extina Side Effects

Side Effects to Report

In general, Extina appears unlikely to cause serious side effects. However, as with any skin medication, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you experience any of the following potentially serious side effects:

  • Extreme skin irritation or other bothersome or intolerable skin reactions
  • Sensitivity to the sun
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat)
    • Wheezing or other breathing problems.

Large oral doses of ketoconazole (the active ingredient in Extina) can cause liver problems and hormonal imbalances, although these problems have not been seen with ketoconazole products applied to the skin like Extina.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the Extina side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while using Extina or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be related to the medication, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
