Desonate is a skin gel used to treat atopic dermatitis, a skin condition commonly referred to as eczema. It belongs to a group of drugs known as corticosteroids ("steroids"). To use this medication, apply a small amount to the affected area twice daily. Although most people tolerate this product well, side effects are possible and may include things such as burning, itching, or a rash.
How Does It Work?Desonate is part of a group of medications known as glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are a type of corticosteroid, or "steroid" for short. Although glucocorticoids have numerous effects in the body, they are used mostly for their anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing properties. Desonate works for atopic dermatitis by decreasing inflammation or suppressing an overactive immune system.
