Lidex Side Effects

Because Lidex is an older medication, there is only vague information available about its possible side effects. In general, side effects may include things like skin reactions, such as burning, itching, or dryness. Although reactions such as these are usually mild, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop more serious problems, such as extreme aggression, severe fluid retention, or hallucinations.

An Introduction to Lidex Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Lidex® (fluocinonide) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Lidex. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Reported Side Effects of Lidex

For many medications (particularly newly approved drugs), the prescribing information carefully explains the exact percentage of side effects that were reported in clinical trials. However, the prescribing information for almost all older medications, including Lidex, includes relatively vague information on possible side effects.

Based on this limited information, the most common side effects of Lidex may include:

  • Burning
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Dryness
  • Irritation or infection of hair follicles of the skin (folliculitis)
  • Increased sweating
  • Acne
  • Loss of skin pigment (lightening of the skin)
  • Rash around the mouth
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Whitening and softening of the skin
  • Infections
  • Weakening and thinning of the skin
  • Stretch marks
  • "Prickly heat" sweat rash (miliaria).

In general, side effects are more likely to occur if a dressing, such as a bandage, is used to cover the medication. Do not use a dressing unless your healthcare provider specifically recommends that you do so.
