Lamisil® (
terbinafine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat fingernail fungus, toenail fungus, and tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp).
Lamisil is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. However, the patent for the drug expired in June 2007, and generic Lamisil is now available.

- Actavis Elizabeth Roxane Laboratories
- Apotex Corp.
- AuroBindo Pharma
- Barr Laboratories
- Dr. Reddy's Laboratories
- Glenmark Pharmaceuticals
- Teva Pharmaceuticals
- Mylan Pharmaceuticals
- Sandoz Pharmaceuticals
- Watson Pharmaceuticals
- Wockhardt Americas.
At this point, generic terbinafine oral granules are not available.
Is Generic Terbinafine as Good as Lamisil?
All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generic versions are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns a rating to each one. An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. All of the generic terbinafine versions currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Lamisil.
However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients from the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients, which may cause problems for people with certain
allergies or sensitivities.
