Kalbitor Side Effects

During extensive clinical studies, Kalbitor was shown to cause reactions like headaches, diarrhea, and fatigue. Fortunately, most people tolerate Kalbitor fairly well, and side effects that do occur tend to be minor and easy to treat. However, because allergic reactions and other potentially serious problems can also occur, contact your healthcare provider if you develop anything that does not seem right.

An Introduction to Kalbitor Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Kalbitor® (ecallantide) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who receives the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Kalbitor. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects With Kalbitor

Kalbitor has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people who received Kalbitor were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people who were given a placebo (a similar product that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the groups using the placebo.

In these studies, common side effects of Kalbitor included:

  • Headache -- in up to 16.1 percent of people
  • Nausea -- up to 12.9 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 11.8 percent
  • Diarrhea -- up to 10.5 percent
  • Upper respiratory tract infection -- up to 8.2 percent
  • Injection site reactions, such as redness, itching, or bruising -- up to 7.4 percent
  • Stuffy nose, nasal discharge, and sore throat -- up to 5.9 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 5.5 percent
  • Fever -- up to 4.7 percent.
