Products That Can React With Istodax

Istodax Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Istodax is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Istodax using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Istodax with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Istodax in your body, potentially making it less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider before using these medicines together; certain CYP 3A4 inducers should not be used in people receiving Istodax.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Istodax using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Istodax with one of these drugs may increase the level of Istodax in your body, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. Certain CYP 3A4 inhibitors should not be used with Istodax if at all possible, while others must be used with caution. Therefore, you should speak with your healthcare provider before combining these drugs.

QT-Prolonging Medications
Istodax can cause a change in the heart rhythm known as QT prolongation. Combining it with other medicines that cause QT prolongation may increase the risk for this life-threatening arrhythmia. Talk to your healthcare provider about this interaction if you take another QT-prolonging drug.

P-glycoprotein (Pgp) Inducers
P-glycoprotein is a protein in the body. One of its roles is to help remove substances, such as medications, from the tissues in the body so they can be removed through the urine or feces. Pgp helps remove Istodax from the body, and medications known as Pgp inducers increase the activity of Pgp.

Combining Istodax with one of these drugs causes Istodax to be removed from the body too quickly, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you use Istodax with a Pgp inducer.
