Treatment Instructions for Injectable Poly-L Lactic Acid

General Information on Receiving Injectable Poly-L Lactic Acid

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with injectable poly-L lactic acid include the following:

  • Several treatment sessions are usually necessary (typically three, although some people with severe facial fat loss due to HIV may need more treatments). You must wait at least two or three weeks between treatment sessions.

  • You will need to remove any makeup before being treated.

  • Your healthcare provider may apply a numbing cream or inject an anesthetic before treatment, especially if you are particularly concerned about pain.

  • Within the first 24 hours after treatment, it can be helpful to ice the treated area (although make sure to avoid putting ice directly on the skin). Also, it is important to massage the treated area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days after treatment.

  • The entire procedure is brief and is done in your healthcare provider's office.

  • You can resume most of your usual activities and may apply cosmetics immediately after the procedure, as long as no complications occurred.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage of injectable poly-L lactic acid, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
