Impetigo, also called pyoderma or impetigo contagiosa, is a type of skin condition that is typically spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. This bacterial skin infection can also be transmitted by touching a contaminated surface or sharing contaminated items, such as a towel, a razor, or bedding. Impetigo is treated with antibiotics, either applied directly to the skin (topical) or taken by mouth (oral).
