Erythromycin/Benzoyl Peroxide
Erythromycin/benzoyl peroxide is a type of skin gel prescribed to treat acne. This medicine contains two acne medications and works by killing acne-causing bacteria. The gel is typically applied to the skin twice daily, in the morning and evening. Potential side effects of this drug may include dry skin, itching, and redness.
Erythromycin/benzoyl peroxide (Benzamycin®) is a prescription medication used to treat acne. It contains a combination of erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide, two acne medications. This is a topical medication, and is applied directly to the affected area(s) of the skin. It comes as a gel that is mixed by the pharmacist before you receive it, or as individual pouches (Benzamycin Pak) that require mixing right before each use.

Just like any medicine, erythromycin/benzoyl peroxide can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Common side effects of erythromycin/benzoyl peroxide include but are not limited to:
- Dry skin
- Itching
- Redness, burning, or stinging.
