What Is Elidel Used For?

For people who have certain skin conditions, a healthcare provider may prescribe Elidel® (pimecrolimus). But what is Elidel used for?
 
Elidel is specifically approved for treating mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children as young as two years old. The standard dosage, regardless of age, is a thin layer of the cream applied to the affected areas of the skin twice daily. This medicine is designed for people who cannot use certain other medications, or whose symptoms are not adequately controlled by other treatments.
 
There are also some unapproved uses, also known as "off-label" uses, for this medicated skin cream. Some of these off-label uses include the treatment of other skin conditions, such as:
