Elidel and Eczema
A healthcare provider may prescribe Elidel® (pimecrolimus) to relieve the symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema). Elidel is specifically approved to treat mild-to-moderate cases of atopic dermatitis in people who have not adequately responded to other medications or who cannot use other treatments.
As a type of immunosuppressant, Elidel can relieve eczema symptoms by making the immune system less active. This medicine should only be used for short periods, although it can be used again after a break in treatment. It is approved for use in adults and children as young as two years old.
(For more information on this eczema medicine, click Elidel Uses. This eMedTV article offers more detailed information on what this medicated skin cream is used for, including unapproved reasons to use it.)
