Desonate Dosage

In most cases, Desonate is applied twice daily to the affected area. This skin gel should be used sparingly, as using too much -- or using it for too long -- can lead to dangerous side effects. This medication should never be applied to the diaper area. To ensure your safety, follow your healthcare provider's exact dosing instructions for Desonate.

An Introduction to Dosing With Desonate

There is only one standard dosage for Desonate® (desonide gel), regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Desonate Dosage for Atopic Dermatitis

The standard starting dose of Desonate for treating atopic dermatitis in people age three months and older is a small amount applied twice daily. Gently rub the gel into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated skin. Wash your hands after applying the gel, unless you are treating your hands.

In general, you should stop using Desonate once the atopic dermatitis is under control. If no improvement is seen within four weeks, your healthcare provider may need to reconsider your diagnosis. Do not use Desonate for more than four weeks at a time. Although it is very effective, unfortunately, the medication cannot be used on a long-term basis.

Do not apply this medication to the diaper area.
