What Is Decadron?
Decadron® (dexamethasone) is prescribed for treating a wide variety of different conditions. But what is Decadron and how does it work?
Decadron belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids (also called glucocorticoids, or "steroids" for short). It contains dexamethasone, which is similar to a natural hormone produced by the body. Decadron may help treat conditions such as rheumatic diseases, respiratory disorders, allergic reactions, and several other conditions by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system.
This prescription medicine is available in a variety of strengths and forms, including tablets, an oral liquid (both as an elixir and a solution), an ophthalmic/otic solution (eye and ear drop), an injectable form, and tablets. Your dose will depend on the particular form of Decadron you are using, the type and severity of the condition being treated, and other medications you are taking.
