Can I Buy Generic Cutivate Lotion?
Cutivate Lotion is made by PharmaDerm. However, the medication is also available in generic form.
Availability of Generic Cutivate Lotion
Generic Cutivate Lotion comes in one strength: Fluticasone propionate lotion 0.05%, available in 120-mL bottles. For the first 180 days, starting in late March 2012, only one manufacturer (Glenmark Generics) will be allowed to make and sell generic Cutivate Lotion.
Is Generic Fluticasone Propionate Lotion Good as Cutivate Lotion?
All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns a rating to each one.
An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. The generic Cutivate Lotion products currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Cutivate Lotion.
However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients than the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with
allergies or sensitivities.
Cutivate is also available as a cream or ointment, and generic versions of these products are available.
