Clobetasol Shampoo

Clobetasol propionate (Clobex®) is a prescription product used to treat a number of skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and poison ivy. It is a type of corticosteroid (or steroid for short) that works to decrease the inflammation and itching associated with these conditions.

Clobetasol is available as a shampoo, lotion, or spray -- all of which are sold under the brand name Clobex. Depending on the product being used, the medication is applied once or twice daily, ideally for no longer than two weeks. Extended use increases the risk of serious side effects.

The shampoo is approved to treat scalp psoriasis and is used once a day. To use it, apply to the scalp while your hair is still dry. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then add water, lather, and rinse well.
