Pediatric and Off-Label Indications for Clobetasol Propionate

Is It Safe for Children to Use Clobetasol Propionate?

Clobetasol propionate is not recommended for use in children younger than 12 years old. This drug is a highly potent steroid, and young children are more likely to absorb too much of this medication, perhaps leading to serious side effects. If steroid treatment is necessary for a child, a milder, less potent steroid would probably be more appropriate.

Is Clobetasol Propionate Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medicine for something other than the conditions listed in this article. This is known as an "off-label" use. Off-label uses are both common and legal. An example of an off-label use for clobetasol propionate shampoo, for example, would be using this product on the body, even though it is approved only for use on the scalp.
