Clemastine fumarate (
Tavist® Allergy, Dayhist
® Allergy) is an antihistamine medication used to treat the symptoms of respiratory
allergies (such as
hay fever), the
common cold, or allergic reactions (such as hives). It is available without a prescription (1.34 mg clemastine fumarate tablets) or with a prescription (clemastine fumarate syrup and 2.68 mg tablets).
For generic clemastine products, both prescription and non-prescription versions are available as well.
Generic clemastine comes in the following strengths and forms:
- Non-prescription clemastine fumarate 1.34 mg tablets (equal to 1 mg of clemastine)
- Prescription clemastine fumarate 2.68 mg tablets (equal to 2 mg of clemastine)
- Prescription clemastine fumarate 0.67 mg per 5 mL syrup (equal to 0.5 mg of clemastine per 5 mL).
