Generic Capex

There are no generic Capex (fluocinolone shampoo) products available at this time. It is unclear why no generic versions are being made; there are no unexpired patents or exclusivity rights that would prevent the manufacturing of generic forms of this drug. It's important to note that fluocinolone shampoo is the "generic name" for this product; it's not a "generic version."

Can I Buy Generic Capex?

Capex® (fluocinolone shampoo) is a prescription skin medication. It is a medicated shampoo that is used once a day for a short period to treat seborrhea of the scalp.
Capex shampoo is made by Hill Dermaceuticals, Inc., for Galderma Laboratories. Although the patents for Capex have expired, the drug is not available in generic form.

Why Isn't Generic Capex Available?

This is a difficult (if not impossible) question to answer. As previously stated, there are no unexpired patents or exclusivity rights for Capex. This means that a generic version could become available at any time, as soon as a manufacturer decides to make it and apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to do so.
It is unclear why no manufacturers have chosen to make generic Capex. Perhaps there is not a large enough market for this particular steroid. There are many, many different steroid products on the market today, and some have become more popular than others.

Is Fluocinolone a Generic Version of Capex?

No -- fluocinolone is the active ingredient in Capex (as well as in a few other medications), but is not a generic version of it. What can be confusing is that the active ingredient of any drug is often referred to as the "generic name."
The generic name is different from a generic version of a medicine. In order for there to be a generic version, the original medicine must have gone off-patent and another company besides the original manufacturer must make the product.
