Topical Calcitriol

Adults with mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis may benefit from calcitriol ointment (Vectical®). As a topical medicine, calcitriol ointment is applied to the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Although it is not entirely clear how this prescription medicine works, the ointment contains an active form of vitamin D.

Although most people tolerate this medicine well, side effects can occur and may include itching and skin discomfort. In addition, you may not be able to use this skin ointment if you have certain allergies or high levels of calcium in the blood.
