Side Effects of Benzyl Alcohol Lotion

Although many people do not experience problems while using benzyl alcohol lotion, side effects can still occur. Some of the most common reactions to this medicine include skin irritation, numbness, and pain at the application site. In most cases, side effects are minor and easily treated. However, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop serious problems, such as difficulty breathing or severe skin irritation.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Benzyl Alcohol Lotion

Just like any medicine, benzyl alcohol lotion (Ulesfia®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. Some people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects

Benzyl alcohol lotion has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, one group of people was treated with benzyl alcohol lotion, and another group was treated with a lotion that did not contain the active ingredient (but had the same inactive ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared between the two groups.

In these studies, the most common side effects of benzyl alcohol lotion included but were not limited to:

  • Skin irritation at the application site -- in up to 2 percent of people
