What Makes Atopic Dermatitis Worse? -- Other Factors

In addition to irritants and allergens, emotional factors, skin infections, rapid changes in temperature, and climate can play a role in atopic dermatitis. Although not direct causes of atopic dermatitis, the following emotional triggers can make the condition worse:
 
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Frustration
  • Divorce
  • Job changes
  • The death of a loved one.
 
Common factors that can trigger atopic dermatitis include:
 
  • Bathing without proper moisturizing afterward
  • Low humidity of winter
  • Dry year-round climate of some geographic areas
  • Overheated indoor areas
  • Long or hot baths and showers
  • Alternately sweating and chilling
  • Bacterial infections.
